Systematic Review

A systematic review answers one focused question by gathering the relevant studies and assessing them together. What separates it from a general review is the method it follows, and that method is what this course teaches, step by step.

You begin by turning your topic into a question precise enough to search for, then plan how you will look for studies and how you will decide which ones belong in the review. We go through this with you before any searching starts, because the plan is what the rest of the work rests on.

From there we cover searching the main databases, screening what comes back, extracting the data you need, and judging how reliable each study is. The final stage is writing it up and reporting your methods clearly, following the PRISMA guidelines so a reader can follow exactly what you did.

Recommended first: a letter to the editor, case report or narrative review.
