Case Report and Case Series

Every clinician sees a case worth writing up. Very few ever write it. This course takes the case you have already seen in your ward, clinic or OT and turns it into a manuscript that a journal will consider.

A case report is the most natural first paper for anyone working clinically, because the material is already in front of you. What is usually missing is the method: knowing which cases are genuinely publishable, how to take consent properly, and how to structure the write-up so a reviewer can follow it.

We write according to the CARE reporting guidelines, cover the ethics of patient consent and anonymity, and run the search that shows your case is unusual. Then we take you through journal selection and the cover letter, which is where most first submissions quietly fail.

What you will learn

  • Topic selection: what makes a publishable case report?
  • Case report structure and writing (CARE guidelines)
  • Patient consent and ethical considerations
  • Literature search and citation (Zotero, EndNote)
  • Manuscript writing and submission process
  • Journal selection and cover letter writing

What you walk away with: A complete case report or case series manuscript, ethically consented, and prepared for submission to a suitable journal.
